Tailor Made Programs have been developed, organized and conducted by the civil engineering department at the SUT or abroad at the request of national and international organizations. Such programs are designed to meet the training needs of the target group, in consultation with the requesting organization. Past experiences include university equivalent degrees at both undergraduate and graduate levels, short courses, workshops and seminars in different civil engineering fields.. The starting point in the composition of the programs is often provided by the existing needs for knowledge and experience in developing countries. This means that in addition to purely scientific subjects, more practical topics such as budgeting, implementation and management also form part of the study program. Special attention is often paid to the interfacing of civil engineering with other technical, economic and social fields. Interdisciplinary collaboration leads to the optimal solutions for the society as a whole.
Technical Assistant and Consulting groups in the civil engineering department comprise a group of experienced engineers, planners and other specialists in various civil engineering fields. The group makes its experience available within the framework of project and policy developments at both domestic and international levels. These activities concern the establishment or strengthenging of research, education and training of teaching staff, joint research and advisory services. In addition, the group participates in identification, formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation teams for different civil engineering related projects and policy developments. The department has access to resources at other Sharif University departments and research centers. with this cooperation, the department can coordinate a vast amount of experience and knowledge by optimal use of the university affiliated specialists.
International cooperation in civil engineering department is with domestic or international institutions or individuals whose activities are relevant to the civil engineering fields. Such cooperation may be realized through formal agreements or other arrangements. The cooperations are in all aspects of education, research and consultancy. Examples are: participation of several well-known expatriate scientists in TOKTEN program, a world conference on civil engineering and development in 1997. The Sharif University of Technology has established the office of international and scientific cooperation for the university international activities and programs.
Student Affair Office is in charge of advising the students during their course of study at the university. Enriched programs are carried by the office through various social, cultural and sport activities. The university physical education center offers courses and extracurriculum programs. Sport activities include football, volleyball, badminton, table tennis , swimming, tennis, basketball. The university gymnasium has facilities for indoor sports such as wrestling, weight lifting, judo, taikwondo, karate, chess, volleyball, basketball. The university also arrange outdoor activities such as biking, skiing, hiking, camping and tours. The university houses a number of auditoriums, guest houses. dormitories, a bookstore, coop shops, a bank, medical units, a mosque and restaurants. Near campus housing provides convenient access to university facilities and services. The civil engineering department student affair committee is in charge of assisting civil engineering students in all aspects. The committee arranges different activities to enhance the physical and psychological potentials of the students. The university student affair office assists foreign scholars and students in their medical care, insurance, housing, transportation, alien registration, visa and money exchange, international schools matters. The civil Engineering Magazine, quarterly published by students is a very popular magazine among engineering students all over the country. For each academic year, the department accepts around 70 undergraduate and 70 postgraduate students. The university offers inter-campus transfer program in the form of guest student to other domestic or international universities. Many research and teaching assistantships are available in the department. The department welcomes foreign students. The fellowships, scholarships and admission are on the basis of the ministry of Culture and Higher Education guidelines.
